Reimagined Roots

As a family grows, their home must grow with them. Feinmann thoughtfully reimagined a 1750-square-foot semi-finished basement to meet the entire family’s needs. The result was a unique combination of living spaces that leveraged a striking balance of modern and rustic charm.

We first built a beautiful living space for the daughter, a thriving teacher, and an empty-nester. Her goals were downsizing, being closer to her parents, and caring for them. This space features an open, airy kitchen and living room with clean finishes and bright colors. It also includes an easy-access walk-in food pantry and a bedroom and bathroom that’s the perfect place to unwind.

Feinmann seamlessly incorporated a communal family room within the basement’s borders. This room fulfilled a needed meeting point and connection between the home’s upstairs and living area. The parents can now enjoy the warmth of the toasty fireplace on a winter day without disturbing their daughter while she’s busy grading papers.

Lastly, the family loves entertaining guests and the young ones by their pool and dipping in its refreshing waters. We used part of the unfinished basement to extend the fun by adding a second bathroom and an area to change and snack.

Reclaimed Barn Wood

Reclaimed barn wood integrated into the kitchen island and office highlights the rustic look. Keeping the existing barn wood in the family room and bedroom ceilings strategically preserves the old charm.

A collection of custom built-in shelving, closets, benches, and drawers expands storage and floor space for more function and flow.

Removing the kitchen and living room walls unlocks the space, creating an improved sense of connectivity.

Positioning spaces for optimal light is a crucial ingredient for happy living. Adding windows in the bedroom and above the kitchen sink maximizes the sunshine.

Modern Fireplace Area

Modernizing the fireplace gives the family room a central stage. Framing the area with natural stone and built-in shelves blends the aesthetics while making the fireplace electric improves ease of use.

New Spaces

New walls give birth to new purposes. The main bathroom, bedroom, food pantry, office, poolside bathroom, and snack area are products of new borders and reimagined spaces.
